WARDROBES
Got 'nothing to wear'? What's the inside of your wardrobe like? Crammed I'll bet. It's not that you've got nothing to wear it's probably that you've got so much you can't find anything. I read somewhere that after Coco Chanel died and her wardrobe was being cleared out by her friends, they found that she owned only about 6 pieces of clothing. Was she too broke to buy clothes? Not on your life-she new how to use an 'encapsulated' wardrobe. That all very well, but most of us are not 5 feet tall, size 8 and with the sense of style and flare that Coco Chanel had, so we admit to having more than 6 pieces of clothing in our wardrobes.

Have some sturdy trash bags on hand for those items in search of a new home. One bag for clothes to go to a local Charity, one for clothes to cut up to become cleaning rags (saves a fortune on paper towels), one for clothes to be given away to family or friends and one for clothes to be dumped in the garbage.

Now how many of these t-shirts do you regularly wear? Don't say you 'regularly' wear all 24 of them-I won't believe you any more than you'd believe me. What about all those blouses, tops, dresses, skirts? Be really ruthless here. (I once gave away 26-count them 26 - white blouses when I had a wardrobe clear out!!) If you haven't worn it in the past year you probably never will or when you decide to try it on it will either not fit anymore or be moth-eaten or so 'dated' that you'd need to keep it another 15 years before it comes back into fashion and then hand it down to your daughter (who will roll her eyes, sigh and say she doesn't want anything second hand), so for heavens sakes get rid of it.

How many pairs of shoes can you wear? How many handbags do you need? Any more than 6 pairs or shoes and 3 handbags is more than enough. Remember, you're being ruthless here. This is more difficult and more painful than the kitchen giveaways, but believe me you'll feel a lot better when it's all over (a bit like the dentist really).

Do the same with the children's clothes with the obvious exceptions of things that are still in good condition and can go from one child to another.

Don't leave the man of the house out of this either. He's probably got as many bits and pieces stashed away somewhere (look in the boot of his car) as you or the kids have, so clean his clothing out too. Just be careful about the footie/fishing gear.
